E' la fine per i mediaplayer sprovvisti di flashplayer o si alza semplicemente l'asticella "entry level"?

Da ieri sono cambiate anche operativamente le condizioni di accesso alle API di youtube, specifiche attraverso le quali sviluppatori di media player piu' o meno embedded potevano ri-confezionare lo streaming offerto dalla piattaforma audio video di google e renderlo disponibile alle applicazioni da loro prodotte.

A dimostrazione di cio', oggi azbox alla voce "youtube" offre uno sconfortante "Loading..." senza fine.

Le nuovi condizioni di accesso, evidentemente molto onerose, saranno accessibili ai grandi produttori: quelli che con una mano (lato cine e fonografico) vorrebbero portare in tribunale youtube e che con l' altra (elettroncia di consumo) vorrebbero sempre disponibile.

Ogni riferimento a colossi giapponesi ibridizzati tedeschi e' puramente casuale.

Come si fa in questi casi a salvare capra e cavoli?
Si sposta il rendimento del business su un piano piu' privilegiato di mercato: mi toglierai qualcosa da una parte, chiudo un occhio se mi dai un mercato piu' protetto dall' altra.

We would like to respond to some of the comments that Youtube's “unnamed sources” to the media regarding Youtube’s request to remove Youtube’s service from Popcorn Hour 1) At the time we implemented Youtube on our platform, we believe we complied with the then current terms of service. We implemented Youtube well before the change of terms of service restricting STB and other TV connected devices. 2) Plain and simple we do not "screen scrape" 3) Youtube on multiple occasions used wording indicating a significant ad spend would be required. Specifically, on one occasion the term $2 Million dollars in ad spend was conveyed, on another occasion the term "multiple seven figure ad spend" was presented. As a small company, we cannot begin to entertain this type of ad spend. As a small company we depend on innovation and delighting our customers and can’t afford these types of spends. However, we asked if they would like to see a demo of our current and the implementation we planned to demo at CES and to work with us on opportunities for them to monetize on embedded solutions such as the PCH. We are experts at implementing on embedded platforms and we hoped that we could work together. They declined our offer. 4) When Youtube contacted us and we became aware of the change in terms, we tried to come to an agreement, but they were not interested unless we could meet the spend requirements. 5) They did indeed offer us Youtube / XL, however even by Youtube's own omission during the discussion, they acknowledge that it is not a technically viable solution for most embedded devices. We explained the technical limitations of the XL approach and offered to partner with them on our well received embedded implementation. We suggested that we would consider offering our implementation on other embedded devices as this is our core area of competence. Unfortunately this offer was also declined. 6) Once we understood that there was no room to come to agreement, we abided by their request and are in the process of removing the service. Having said this, we understand Google's desire to monetize Youtube's assets and wish them well in their efforts. If or when we can support Youtube in the future, either via the API approach or the XL approach we would like to work with them. A questo punto, o hai in canna un browser completo di supporto flash e peschi direttamente da youtube come un utente finale da pc, o ti attacchi.


Vedremo lo stesso tipo di accordo tra i produttori di set top boxes e i produttori di contenuti pay tv? Tipo " non rompere le scatole al mio decoder unico ed io ne commissiono un tot di pezzi a te" ?

E non pensate di "farvelo" perche' da anni ormai l'elettronica, anche quella di consumo, deve sottostare ad obblighi di certificazione fuori dalle possibilita' dell' hobbista. La dimostrazione e' che i rivenditori di componenti elettronici soffrono come gli ex negozi di dischi.

Tutelare chi? Il grosso a danno del piccolo?

Oppure e' giusto oggi "piratare" youtube con qualche workaround dopo che la piattaforma in questione si e' ricavata una bella posizione di predominio in anni di servizio "borderline".
Una scalata tollerata dalle major sino a quando non e' stato piu' possibile spazzarla dalla tavola col solo dorso della mano.
Ed ora che al loro stesso tavolo si e' seduto, il nuovo ospite non rischiera' di subire lo stesso trattamento, come in "un po' per uno in braccio alla mamma" ?

Per ora azbox continua a funzionare.... chissa' in base a che, se ha abbracciato XL (potrebbe visto che il client e' piuttosto limitato), se ha cacciato o' grano o se ha solo tirato dritto.

Un eloquente "per adesso va, poi vedremo" sembra indirizzare verso una delle ipotesi

Il discorso sembra filare ma...in tutto ciò, che ruolo ha Adobe?

Di fatto il coltello dalla parte del manico ce l'ha Adobe, o no? Se Adobe dovesse decidere di portare Flash su altre piattaforme dubito che YouTube possa opporsi.
